Moshe Dayan shaking hands with Brian Urquhart, Deputy Secretary General of the UN

Press: Mr. Urquhart did you find a solution to the problem of the Lebanese battalion near Kaukaba?

TRANSCRIPT: Urquhart: No we discussed this and many other problems. I didn't expect to find an immediate solution. We are continuing these discussions this afternoon with Defence Minister Ezer Weizmann and with the Israeli Defence Force. I think we have a clearer understanding of our respective ideas - about what the problem are what the difficulties are and I'm most grateful tot he Foreign Minister for giving us a very full and frank discussions of these very difficult problems which we have to find a solution to.

Press: You discussed the possibility with Dayan, the possibility of renewing the mandate of the UNIFIL in S. Lebanon?

Urquhart: I didn't discuss the possibility of the renewal of a mandate. We naturally this question did come up. It's very relevant feature but it's neither up to the Foreign Minister or to me but to the Security Council.

Press: Are you satisfied with Israel's posture in terms of the Lebanese Battalion?

Urquhart: I really can't comment on that because obviously this is what we're discussing. I wouldn't wish to make a comment on that for the time being.

    Urquhart, Siilasvuo at car.
