    MAYOR OKABE OF INUYAMA OFFICIATED AT THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY MARCH 22, BUT HIS TEN-YEAR OLD GRAND-DAUGHTER MIDOR WAS GIVEN THE HONOUR OF CUTTING THE TAPE.

    THE THREE-COACH TRAIN WAS CONSTRUCTED BY HITACHI LTD., JAPAN'S LARGEST MANUFACTURING COMPANY, UNDER AN AGREEMENT WITH THE WEST GERMAN FIRM OF ALWEG, AND IS THE FIRST STRADDLE-TYPE MONORAIL TO GO INTO SERVICE IN JAPAN. THE TRAIN CAN CARRY 190 PASSENGERS AT ABOUT 30 M.P.H.
