  • Description

The pro-Palestinian guerrillas who seized and OPEC (Organisation of Petroleum
Exporting Countries) building in Vienna, Austria, released some hostage in Algiers
    on Monday (22 December).

The guerrillas had demanded a jet to fly them to Algiers. The Austrian
government complied with the demands and supplied a bus to take the guerrillas
and their hostages to Vienna airport and a DC-9 to fly them where they wished.

Austrian police said 33 hostages and six guerrillas were on the plane when it
    left Vienna.

Top government officials were waiting in Algiers - among them Foreign Minister
Mr. Adelaziz Bouteflika. He and other officials had talks with the leader of the
terrorists. As a result some of the hostages were freed. One of them was the
Gabonese Minster of State in charge of Mines, Energy and Water Resources, M.

    Edouard Boutzit.

    M. Boutzit spoke about his experiences with the guerrillas. Some of his remarks
appear on film. He said the group that had kidnapped them -- 'The Right Arm of
the Revolution' -- wanted to alert progressive countries - and especially Rab
countries - to the "Zionist and Imperialist plot" to make them recognise Israel
    and not a Palestinian state.

The nationality of the terrorists has not yet been established. M. Boutzit said
he believed they were Arabs but they spoke various languages.

The guerrillas' plane later took off for Tripoli in Libya. One report suggests
the terrorists may be trying to call at several Arab capital cities possibly
    releasing hostages at each.

Three people were killed on Sunday (21 December), the first day of the siege,
and one of the terrorists is badly wounded. He left the plane and was taken to
    hospital in Algioers.
