    A Japanese Woman's Volleyball team on sunday (14 May) defeated a touring side form the Soviet Union by three games to two. The matches were played in the Tokyo Gymnasium before a crowd of about 9-thousand.

    The tournament was the sixth and last played in Japan by the Soviet team and they lost all but one.

    One Sunday the visitors started well taking the first two games 15-7 and 15-11 but the Japanese came back strongly to win the remaining three games 15-13, 15-13.

    On world ratings the Soviet and Japanese Women's volleyball teams are considered about equal at the top of the table, and the success of the Japanese Women has raised hopes in Tokyo for a Gold Medal at the Munich Olympics.

    SYNOPSIS: The Soviet team is on the right in this Women's Volleyball match in Tokyo between a Japanese said and a team form the Soviet Union. On World ratings, Japan and the Soviet Union are equally matched at the top of the table in this sport--and many among the nine thousand in the audience were looking for pointers to the Munich Olympics. The Soviet women went into the tournament very much the underdogs. It was the sixth tournament they's played on their Japanese tour--and they'd managed to win only one. The visitors started well, winning the first two matches 15-7 and 15-1.

    The third game however went to Japan--and the fourth produced the same score...another win to Japan. This is the fifth and crucial match with the Russian players trying desperately to overhaul the Japanese.
