    THEY CARRIED INNUM ERBLE BANNERS AND PLACARDS WITH SLOGANS WRITTEN IN RED AND PARADED IN FRONT OF THE OLD NATIONAL ASSEMBLY BUILDING. THERE WERE NO INCIDENTS.

    THE STUDENTS HOWEVER, DID NOT OPENLY CRITICISE THE LATEST COUP BUT SAID THAT MAJOR-GENERAL DUONG VAN MINH, WAS THE ONLY LEADER CAPABLE OF RALLYING FULL NATIONAL SUPPORT AND SATISFYING THE DEMANDS OF THE PRESENT POPULATION.

    NEXT DAY (FEBRUARY 5) MAJOR-GENERAL NGUYEN KHANH, THE NEW JUNTA CHAIRMAN, MET POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS LEADERS IN THE OFFICE OF THE OUTGOING PRIME MINISTER FOR TALKS ABOUT THE FORMATION OF A NEW GOVERNMENT.

    WHILE THE MEETING WAS IN PROGRESS, STUDENT GROUPS HAD MINOR CLASHES IN STREET WHILE DEMONSTRATING FOR RIVAL POLITICAL LEADERS. COMBAT POLICE WERE CALLED IN TO BREAK UP THE DEMONSTRATORS, WHO MARCHED OFF TO THE CENTRAL MARKET.
