Background: The British Secretary of State for Defence, Mr. Roy Mason, saw displays of two new types of weapons during a three-day visit to British Forces in West Germany this week.

Mr. Mason visited Royal Air Force and British Army units and saw displays of the Rapier anti-aircraft missile system which will come into service in West Germany shortly, and the new Chieftain armoured.

On Wednesday (26 February) he was joined by the West Germany Defence Minister, Herr Georg Leber, and they travelled to a military training ground in the Sennelager Ranges near Dortmund.

The two Defence Ministers watched a mock battle of armoured artillery and infantry attacks supported by the RAF's Harrier "Jump-jet" and helicopters.
