The new Chief of Staff of the India Army, General T.N. Raina, formally took over?
The new Chief of Staff of the India Army, General T.N. Raina, formally took over his duties in the Defence Ministry in New Delhi on Monday (2 June).
General Raina succeeds General G.G. Bewoor who has retired at the end of his term of duty.
Born in 1921, General Raina was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1942 and served in both eastern and western theatres of war during the Second World War. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1971 and, until nominated as the new Chief of Staff, was General Officer in charge of the Indian Army's Western Command.
India has one of the largest armies in south Asia, with over one million troops now under General Raina's command.
