  • Description

The latest teenage craze in Sydney, Australia, is mudbathing. And hundreds of young surfers have--temporarily at least--forsaken their surfboards to lark about in the mud.

It started when teenagers discovered a huge mud pool, left behind by a company dredging for shellgrit, near a popular swimming and boating area.

Teenaged girls have taken to bathing in it, too and say the mud does wonders for their skin.

But local doctors have said that be that as it may, the mud bathers run the risk of serious ear and throat infections from the stagnant mud pool.

Whatever the risk, there's no sign that the youngsters will quickly give up their new-found sport.

SYNOPSIS: The latest craze among youngsters in Sydney, Australia, is mud bathing.

And many teenagers normally found riding a surfboard at nearby beaches, have been caught up in the new sport.

The mud pool was left behind by a company which was dredging for shellgrit near a popular swimming and boating area...and word soon got around.

Girls enjoy mud bathing, too. And while a mudpack may not look attractive, those who've tried it...perhaps even unwillingly at first...claim it does wonders for their complexions.

Local doctors are not as enthusiastic. In fact they say the mud bathers run the risk of serious ear or throat infections from the stagnant pool.

But there's no sign the youngsters will quickly drop the sport.

After a romp in the mud, there's nothing like a dip in the nearby estuary to wash it off.

Then they emerge from the water all clean and refreshed....and ready for yet another mudbath.
