King Faisal of Saudi Arabia held the annual grand reception for visiting Moslem leaders in the Royal Palace in Mina, near Mecca, on Wednesday (25 December). The occasion was in honour of those leaders completing the Moslem pilgrimage to the Ka'aba, the sacred shrine of Islam in the courtyard of the Great Mosque in Mecca.
Among those present at the reception were the Paramount Ruler of Malaysia, Sultan Abdul Halim M'azzam, the Sudanese President, Jaffar El-Nimeriy, and the Egyptian Vice-President Hussein El-Shafei.
The Grand Islamic Reception was also attended by members of the Saudi Araban nobility and government, and prominent leaders form other Moslem states and Arab organisations.
Speakers at the reception paid tribute to the work of King Faisal in international and religious affairs. Mr. Sayed Abu Hisham, official representative of the Palestine Liberation Organisation in Saudi Arabia, thanked King Faisal for his hospitality to the pilgrims.
SYNOPSIS: Another of King Faisal's prominent guests was the Paramount Rule of Malaysia, Sultan Abdul Halim Um'azzam.
Members of the Saudi Arabian nobility and the Government were present at the reception. Moslem leaders form a number of countries were also invited. Many of the guests spoke warmly of the King's work in international and religious affairs, and also his hospitality to the pilgrims who visited Mecca this year.
