    SYNOPSIS: A news conference was called at the Headquarters of the West African Examination Council on Wednesday, so that the Council's Chairman -- Mr. Chukwuemeka Ike -- could keep the public informed of some of its latest decisions.

    Mr. Ike described the racket in forged examination certificates as a frightening public menace. He had been receiving requests for verification of the certificates from universities in the United Kingdom and the United States, and he had offered the Council's fullest co-operation in checking the certificates.

    He announced that the Council's administrative structure had been thoroughly overhauled to cope with the growing number of candidates for examinations in African. He also said that he had arranged briefing sessions for the supervisors at examination centres.
