  • Description

With the Monsoon season over in Indo-China, mechanised units are being pitched back into the battles in Cambodia. This week, South Vietnamese forces operating in Cambodia advanced across paddy fields towards the provincial capital of Kompong Cham, North-East of Phnom Penh, which has been under pressure from pro-Sihanouk forces in recent weeks.

South Vietnamese aircraft bombed a large rubber plantation South-East of Kompong Cham where two North Vietnamese regiments were suspected to be hiding. The South Vietnamese were reported to be planning to enter the plantation -- the largest in Indo-China.

Troops from the South Vietnamese 18th Division entered the village of Khnar which had been devastated by aerial strikes and artillery bombardment.

Occupying forces found a portrait of deposed Prince Sihanouk in the ruins of one house. The village was almost totally destroyed and local residents seemed dazed by the violent arrival of the Indo-China war to Khnar.
