Background: A kitchen sink that cleans dishes with the aid of sound waves has been demonstrated by scientists at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
Cleaning a glass like the one seen on film would normally mean a good scrubbing but this sink does the work by using ultrasonic waves - pitched far above the audible range of the human ear.
Similar high frequency waves are used in underwater detection of submarines.
This device, twice as efficient and one fourth as costly as any existing device of comparable power, is expected to result in many commercial, industrial and military applications.
