  • Description

A seiner member of Ghana's National Redemption Council, Colonel Adjetey, was guest of honour in Accra on Thursday (15 June) at the opening of a Bulgarian exhibition of photographs depicting the life of Georgi Dimitrev.

In his speech at the ceremony, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Dimitar Chorbadjev, described Dimitrev as "a prominent figure of the International Revolutionary Movement and the much-loved founder of Socialist Bulgaria."
The exhibition in Accra commemorates the ninetieth anniversary of Dimitrev's bright. He is best-known for his spirited self-defence when accused in Germany of burning down the Reichstag in Berlin in 1933. When acquitted he fled to Moscow, and was granted Soviet citizenship. After the Second World War, Dimitrev reverted to his Bulgarian nationality and played a major part in setting up the Bulgarian People's Republic. He died in 1949.
