    A FESTIVAL OF ARTS WHICH WILL CONTINUE FOR TWO WEEKS, OPENED IN THE GHANAIAN CAPITAL, ACCRA, ON WEDNESDAY (JANUARY 25TH). IT'S A PRELUDE TO NEXT WEEK'S GHANA INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR.

    THE GHANA FESTIVAL WAS OPENED BY THE MEMBER OF THE RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL RESPONSIBLE FOR ARTS AND CULTURE, MR. A.K. DEKU. HE WAS GREETED BY THE GHANA DANCE ENSEMBLE THOSE TRAINED AT THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND DRAMA OF THE INSTITUTE OF AFRICAN STUDIES, GHANA UNIVERSITY.

    THE CHIEFS THERE, LED BY THE GA MANTSE, CHIEF OF GA, NII AMUGI II, RETURNED GREETINGS FROM MR. DEKU.

    THE FESTIVAL'S CHAIRMAN, DR. OKU AMPOFO, SAID AT THE OPENING CEREMONY THAT THE OVERTHROWN OF DR. NKRUMAH, THE FORMER PRESIDENT, HAD BEEN A BLESSING TO ARTISTS IN GHANA. MR. DEKU CALLED ON GHANAIANS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR COUNTRY'S ART.

    THEN THE OFFICIAL GUESTS TOURED THE FESTIVAL, SAW DISPLAYS OF POTTERY, CARVINGS AND PAINTINGS, AND MR. DEKU TRIED ON A NORTHERN WAR HELMET FOR SIZE. THE EVENING ENDED WITH A DISPLAY OF TRADITIONAL DRUMMING.
