  • Description

Herr Pohler, deputy of the German Social-Democratic Party in the Federal Parliament though he had struck a blatant form of Neo-Fascism recently, when he learned that a firm in Birgden, Germany, is exporting silk headscarves bearing a swastika design to Ghana. He raised queries in Parliament and Professor Erhard, Federal Minister of Economics, approached the manufacturers with a request to give details of the manufacture. It transpired that the firm has been supplying swastika designed materials to Ghana - or the Gold Coast- since 1885......because the natives there have always regarded the Swastika as a symbol of a MONKEY'S PAW! This disclosure brought a gale of laughter to the Parliamentary benches last Wednesday March12 and of course, the trade goes on, unhampered by political considerations. Indeed, the German firm are merely supplying a design which the Ghanaians have asked for particularly.
