Background: After several setbacks, Frenchman Jean Chambrin -- the proud inventor of a car that runs on water -- finally presented his car to the French public on Wednesday ( 4 June) in Paris.
M. Chambrin, a garage owner, claims that the engine runs mainly on water and alcohol made from beetroot.
The engine works on the principle of cracking -- the breaking down of liquid at high temperatures. The alcohol acts as a stabiliser for the water.
Although he created considerable interest when he announced his invention last October, he ran into difficulties getting guaranteed support. He need a new car and money to register for patent rights.
Finally, an association formed by people who supported him and the association of beetroot growers got together to help him. And the later provided him with the car.
His final product has been tested by the chairman of his supporters association and also by the French National consumers Association.
