Background: King Mahendra and Queen Ratna of Nepal are on a 25-day State visit to India. Yesterday (Saturday) New Delhi gave them a civic welcome with a reception at historic Red Fort.
The welcome was on behalf of the 3-million citizens of the Indian capital -- "your sincere admirers," as the Mayor described them. In the speech of welcome, the Mayor said he hoped that the King's talks with Indian leaders would prove fruitful and strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two countries.
Replying, the ruler of the neighbouring Himalayan kingdom spoke of the "warm and close" relations between Nepal and India.
