  • Description

As the Nixon administration prepared for what might be the final Vietnam peace negotiations, the anti-war movement on Saturday (18 November) held demonstrations in 20 cities across the United States.

the biggest was in New York, where a couple of thousand demonstrators marched to a rally in Central Park.

One of the speakers was the co-ordinator of the National Peace Action Coalition, Katherine Sojourner, who said...

Correspondents said the rally was much smaller than expected. This was also the case with demonstrations in cities such as Washington, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boston. A rally planned for Chicago apparently failed to take place.

One news agency, commenting on the small turnouts, described the day as perhaps the peace movement's "Last Hurrah".
