    A FRENCH 'CORALIE' ROCKET - THE SECOND STAGE OF THE PROPOSED EUROPA ONE ROCKET - IS ON ITS WAY TO AUSTRALIA TO BE FIRED INTO SPACE WITH A BRITISH 'BLUE STREAK' - THE 'BLUE STREAK' FORMS THE FIRST STAGE OF EUROPA ONE, THE SYSTEM BEING DEVELOPED BY THE EUROPEAN LAUCHER DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION TO PUT A COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE INTO ORBIT.

    THE 'CORALIE' WAS PUT ABOARD A ROYAL AIR FORCE FREIGHTER AT EVREUS YESTERDAY FOR THE FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DUE TO STOP AT MUNICH EN ROUTE TO PICK UP THE THIRD STAGE ROCKET, BEING BUILT IN WEST GERMAN. THE COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE TO TOP THE THREE-STAGE ROCKET IS BEING DEVELOPED IN ITALY.

    IT IS HOPED TO PUT EUROPE'S FIRST COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE INTO ORBIT IN 1970 USING THE THREE ROCKET SYSTEMS. THE ROCKET WILL BE LAUNCHED FROM A BASE IN FRENCH GUIANA.

    THE 'CORALIE' HAS ALREADY HAD TWO SUCCESSFUL TESTS FROM FRENCH RANGE AT HAMMGUIB IN THE SAHARA DESERT. AT ITS SECOND TEST, IN DECEMBER LAST YEAR, IT REACHED A HEIGHT OF 35 MILES (55 K.M.) IN 176 SECONDS, CARRYING AMOCK THIRD ROCKET AND A DUMMY SATELLITE.

    THE FIRING AT WOOMERA WITH THE BLUE STREAK WILL FOLLOW AN UNSUCCESSFUL LAUNCHING, AT EUROPA ONE IN MAY LAST YEAR. THE FAULT WAS BLAMED ON A RADAR MISTAKE AND NOT ON THE ROCKET.
