  • Description

This aircraft is the first of two Britannia 300 Series airliners to be delivered to Aeronaves de Mexico SA. It has flown out to Mexico City from the headquarters of the Bristol Aeroplane Company at Filton, Bristol by way of Prestwick in Scotland, Goose Bay and Miami, a total distance of 6,300 miles. Pilot during the delivery flight was Captain W Daniel, of Pan American Airways, who is at present on loan to Aeronaves as Check Pilot. The remainder of the flight crew are members of Bristol's flight test department.

Initially, Aeronaves are to use the aircraft for crew training, and will start route proving flights during November. Scheduled Britannia services between Mexico City and New York are due to begin by the end of the year.

Aeronaves placed their order for the two Britannias in June this year. Senor Carlos Ramos, Chief Executive and General Manager, said at the time: "The purchase of Britannias will enable Aeronaves de Mexico to offer its passengers travel by the most modern airline equipment available in the world today. The competition we face on the Mexico - New York run is extremely stiff; but I believe that Britannia, available two to three years ahead of any competitive type, will put Aeronaves in a leading position by setting entirely new standards of airline travel. These advantages, together with its superior speed, will, I am convinced, obtain a fair share of the traffic for Aeronaves".

Among the passengers on board during the flight was Mr C F Uwins, Deputy Chairman of the Bristol Aeroplane Company Limited.
