    The Congolese Head of State, Colonel Joachim Yhombi-Opango, has called for a United front of nations opposed to imperialism in Africa. He was speaking during a one-day visit to Ethiopia on Sunday (21 May).

    SYNOPSIS: President Yhombi-Opango was met at Addis Ababa's Bole airport by Lieutenant-Colonel Mengistu, Chairman of Ethiopia's Provisional Military Advisory Council and the Council of Ministers. A number of other Ethiopian leaders were also present. Colonel Yhombi-Opango told reporters that the Congo People's Republic acclaimed Ethiopia's victory against Somalia in the Ogaden, which he said was achieved under the "far sighted and correct leadership" of Colonel Mengistu."
    Later, at a dinner in his honour, the Congolese leader was to call for a united African front against imperialism throughout the continent. Colonel Yhombi-Opango said, imperialists were plotting against progressive governments.. According to Addis Ababa Radio he accuses reactionary Arab ruling classes in particular of trying to obstruct the struggle of Africans against racism and neo-colonialism. He said they were interfering in the internal affairs of Africa. President Yhombi-Opango was quoted as saying "the imperialists are plotting against the independence of Africans, and we believe that we must do all we can to foil this dangerous plot."
    The Congolese Head of State was accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Mr. Theophile Opango. After spending the night at the Presidential palace, Colonel Yhombi-Opango returned home to Brazzaville.
