DRESSED AS GIS AND VIETNAMESE CIVILIANS, THEY MIMED THE ATROCITIES OF WAR OUTSIDE THE U.S. SELECTIVE SERVICE HEADQUARTERS. SEVERAL HUNDRED DEMONSTRATORS TOOK PART IN THE PROTEST AFTER A DELEGATION HAD BEEN REFUSED A HEARING BY THE AUTHORITIES.

    SYNOPSIS: MILITANT ANTI-WAR DEMONSTRATORS IN WASHINGTON ON TUESDAY DRESSED UP AS AMERICAN GIS AND VIETNAMESE PRISONERS IN ORDER TO PROTEST AGAINST THE SYSTEM OF DRAFTING PERSONNEL FOR THE U.S. FORCES.

    THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE DRAFT SYSTEM, THE SELECTIVE SERVICE BUILDING, WAS THE TARGET FOR THE PROTEST.

    AFTER THE DELEGATION OF THE MILITANTS HAD BEEN REFUSED A HEARING. THEY MADE THEIR PROTEST THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF STREET THEATRE -- MIMING THE ATROCITIES OF WAR.

    THE ORGANISERS PLAN AT LEAST TWO WEEKS OF DEMONSTRATIONS DEMANDING AN IMMEDIATE END TO THE VIETNAM WAR AND THE DRAFT. POLICE ARRESTED FOUR PEOPLE, BUT THE PROTEST WAS GENERALLY QUIET. HOWEVER, THE DEMONSTRATORS SAID THEY WOULD CONTINUE A VIGIL OUTSIDE THE HEADQUARTERS UNTIL THEY WERE ALLOWED MASS ENTRY TO THE BUILDING.
