  • Description

Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, is due to arrive back in London on March 13 after her delays on the way home from Australia where she wound up her Commonwealth tour. She left Mauritius on March 11 and her plane was expected at Entebbe in Uganda the following day. Before she left Australia the Queen Mother witnessed possibly the most brilliant spectacle of her tour, a Royal Water Pageant and music festival. The Queen Mother sailed in her Royal Barge between lines of illuminated and decorated river craft, which had assembled at Torrens Lake near the heart of Adelaide. It was a thrilling sight for the 200,000 people who watched from the banks. Adelaide had never before seen such a splendid display. And the Queen Mother said it was one of the finest shows she had ever seen. The occasion was accompanied by a full orchestra playing Handel's Water Music.
