  • Description

WEST GERMANY FOREIGN MINISTER HERR WILLY BRANDT YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) PAID TRIBUTE TO KARL MARX, FATHER OF WORLD COMMUNISM, IN A CEREMONY AT THE HOUSE IN TRIER, WEST GERMANY, WHERE THE PHILOSOPHER WAS BORN 150 YEARS AGO. ABOUT 300 YOUTHS STAGED A DEMONSTRATION PROTESTING AGAINST THE BONN GOVERNMENT'S "ANTI-COMMUNIST POLICIES, BUT THERE WERE NO INCIDENTS."
HERR BRANDT'S SOCIAL DEMOCRAT PARTY SHED ITS CENTURY-OLD MARXIST ORIGINS A DECADE AGO. HERR BRANDT SAID IN A SPEECH OPENING A MARX EXHIBITION IN THE TOWN: "KARL MARX CREATED, WITH ALMOST OLD TESTAMENT POWER, THE VISION OF A CLASSLESS SOCIETY ON EARTH."
THE EXHIBITION, COMPOSED MAINLY OF HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS, WAS MOUNTED AT THE HOUSE WHERE THE AUTHOR OF "DAS KAPITAL" WAS BORN ON 5 MAY, 1818.

HERR BRANDT SAID THAT ALTHOUGH MUCH OF MARX'S ECONOMIC THEORY WAS OUTDATED HIS REAL VALUE WAS THE IMPULSE HE GAVE TO ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RESEARCH AND TO MODERN POLITICAL THEORIES.

JOURNALISTS AND SCHOLARS FROM 20 COUNTRIES, MANY OF THEM COMMUNIST, ATTENDED THE CEREMONY. EAST GERMAN HISTORIANS REFUSED AN INVITATION.
