  • Description

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CAST THEIR UNUSUAL "VOTES FOR VICTORY" IN BOMBAY LAST SUNDAY. CITIZENS PUT THE MINIMUM OF ONE RUPEE IN OVER TWO-THOUSAND BOXES TO INDICATE THEIR SUPPORT TO THE NATION'S DEFENCE EFFORT.

IT WAS AN ELECTION CAMPAIGN WITH A DIFFERENCE. NO POLITICAL WRANGLING, JUST AN APPEAL TO THE POPULATION TO EXPRESS THROUGH THEIR VOTE THEIR DETERMINATION AND CONFIDENCE IN ULTIMATE VICTORY AGAINST CHINA.

MAHARASHTRA'S CHIEF MINISTER, MR KANNAMWA SAID THIS WAS A NOVEL EXPERIMENT AND THAT BOMBAY WOULD HAVE THE DISTINCTION OF GIVING A LEAD TO THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.

BOMBAY'S MAYOR, DR SHAH, HAD ASKED THE CITY'S FOUR MILLION CITIZENS TO CAST THEIR VOTES. IN A SPECIAL APPEAL HE POINTED CUT THAT THE BALLOT BOX IS A SYMBOL OF DEMOCRACY AND THEREFORE HAD BEEN CHOSEN TO INDICATE THE PEOPLE'S DETERMINATION.
