  • Description

ELEVEN UNITED STATES SOLDIERS, CAPTURED BY CAMBODIAN FORCES IN JULY AFTER AN ALLEGED BORDER VIOLATION, WERE VISITED THIS WEEK BY A GROUP OF REPORTERS AND CAMERAMEN AND PERMITTED TO GIVE A NEWS CONFERENCE.

THE TROOPS WERE DETAINED WHEN THEIR LANDING CRAFT WAS INTERCEPTED IN THE MEKONG DELTA. AN AMERICAN REPORTER AMONG THE PARTY TO VISIT THE SOLDIERS SAID CAMBODIA HAD PROMISED TO RELEASE THE MEN WHEN THE UNITED STATES RECOGNISED CAMBODIA'S BORDERS.

REPORTERS SAID THE DETAINEES APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD HEALTH AND SPIRITS. THEY WERE TREATED AS DETAINEES RATHER THAN PRISONERS.

ONE OF THE PRISONERS INTERVIEWED BY REPORTERS WAS KLAUS ZUPP, OF NEW YORK. ZUPP, GERMAN-BORN, LIVED IN AMERICA FOR TEN YEARS.
