Background: For the firs time in the history of the Nigerian army women are being recruited. They are being accepted for signals and clerical duties.
The women being recruited will undergo a rapid training course with the Federal Army before taking up positions as signallers and clerks near the front line of the civil war.
Meanwhile, Federal troops are administering prisoner of war centres in areas now under Federal occupation. The captives are being rehabilitated.
The women are being received at the Third Commando Division's headquarters at Calabar, in South Eastern Nigeria. Federal authorities say if the use of women proves successful more women may be recruited for non-combatant roles.
The prisoners shown in the film are being held at Calabar. The government of Nigeria says that the prisoners are being well catered for, and disclaims suggestion of victimisation against Ibo tribesmen saying that all prisoners are receiving equal treatment.
