Background: VISNEWS film from Athens shows the start of the 7th International Rallye Acropolis - a notable event of the European Motor Rallies Championship - on May 28.
Among competitors at the start were Britain's Miss Pat Moss and Miss Ann Wisdom - whose Austin Healey started first - and two other British entrants, Sprinzel and Benstead-Smith, driving an M.G.
A much favoured car in the event was the Porsche Carrera, driven by Mme. Meinecke and her assistant, both of West Germany.
The Rallye, under the Patronage of King Paul of Greece, brought over 80 cars from 15 countries of Athens. Contestants set off from the start to compete over a 3000-kilometre route taking them through many famous Greek historical places - Marathon, Thebes, Thermopylae and Sparta, the start taking place under the shadow of the Acropolis itself. The Rallye's alternative starting point was at Trieste.
