Background: The second Festival of Hong Kong continues all this week.

It opened on Friday (November 26) with a fashion show, and an evening street-parade featuring dragon and lion dancing.

For the festival, streets throughout the British Colony have been decorated with bunting, lanterns and coloured lights.

SYNOPSIS: Hong Kong is brightly decorated this wee for the colony's second festival. The usual busy traffic passes underneath elaborate archways-- and along streets lined with bunting and coloured lights. The nine-day festival has cost more than one million U.S. dollars to arrange--and is designed to celebrate Hong Kong's continuing Prosperity. A similar Festival held two years ago marked Hong Kong's recovery from the disturbances of 1967.

An early item on this years's festival programme -- a fashion show. Models displayed the clothes that the well-dressed Hong Kong woman can expects to wear in the approaching winter. The present festivities include a wide variety of activities -- concerts, coin collections, pop shows, sky diving displays and variety shows are all on the programme.

The Festival goes on day-- and night. On the opening day 200-thousand people turned out to watch a parade wind its way through the business district. Included in the parade-- traditional dragon and lion dances. The opening of the Hong Kong Festival prompted a comment from the colony's new Governor, Sir Murray MacLehose. He said that the right combination of hard work and leisure is the hallmark of a happy and successful community. This, said Sir Murray, is what the Festival is all about.
