Hundreds of thousands of people crowded around the Parliament House where the body lay in state to pay their last respects before the flag-draped coffin which rested on a three-tiered red carpeted bier.
Thousands of people from villages in the surrounding jungle and rubber plantations had poured into the capital following Tun Razak's death from leukaemia in London on Wednesday.
Malaysia's new Prime Minister ???atuk Hussein Onn and widow and five sons of Razak stood by to greet Australian Prime Ministers Malcolm Fraser and Whitlam, Thai Prime Minister Kukrit Pramoj, Indonesian Vice President Sultan Hamengku Buweno, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
The coffin, draped with the national flag, was berne on a gun carriage drawn by 24 officers of the armed forces. The gun carriage was followed by Tun Razak's family, the new prime Minister Russein and foreign leaders.
Surging crowds, making use of the national holiday declared in view of the funeral, stood along the route to National Mosque to catch a view of the procession. The slow procession gave the people their last chance to pay respects to Tun Razak.
After special prays led by the Chief ???ufti of the Kuala Lumpur, the coffin was carried to the burial ground alongside the White National Mosque where the late Prime Minister was being honoured as only the second leader to buried there.
