  • Description

A rich haul of arms and medical supplies were captured by French security troops in a series of recent operations against Algerian terrorists.

Carrying out a night ambush, the soldiers returned to their camp with a number of important captives who were immediately lined-up and detained for questioning.

Examining the haul of arms and equipment, the soldiers found a variety of rifles and pistols among the arms laid out for inspection. Even more important was the capture of vital medical supplies - including hypodermic syringes - which are in such short supply with the Arab terrorists.

Among the captured men were four merchants whose papers gave a number of vital clues concerning the location of other insurgents in the Souk-Ahras region.

They were also found to be carrying over 500,000 francs in their baggage.

Other captured items included a variety of bullets and cartridges, a portable radio, and a terrorist flag.

Meanwhile, on the Algerian-Tunisian border, work goes ahead to strengthen the fortifications around the village of Sidi Goussef which stands on the frontier.

While engineers and civilians erect new barbed wire fences and relief columns move forward to various outposts, the Commandant of the area receives a number of local leaders who require assistance for their people.

After a short discussion, the French commanding officer arranged for food to be distributed to the people and for the sick to be tended by the medical service.
