Background: HIGH ABOVE THE ITALIAN ALPS THE SEARCH CONTINUED TODAY (THURSDAY) FOR THE WRECKAGE OF THE PRIVATE COMET JETLINER OF KING SAUDI OF SAUDI ARABIA WHICH CRASHED EARLY YESTERDAY, KILLING THE 18 PEOPLE ON BOARD. SEARCH PARTIES AND HELICOPTERS COMBING. THE ARGENTERA AREA WERE HAMPERED BY HEAVY SNOWSTORMS AND BANKS OF MIST. TECHNICAL EXPERTS CONDUCTING A JUDICIAL INQUIRY TO ESTABLISH IF A BOMB HAD EXPLODED ON THE AIRCRAFT ACCOMPANIED THE RESCUE PARTIES.

MEANWHILE IN NICE, WHERE KING SAUD IS STAYING IN A HEAVILY-GUARDED HOTEL, A SENIOR OFFICIAL OF THE SAUDI ARABIAN COURT DENIED THAT THE KING TOLD MECCA RADIO YESTERDAY THAT HIS AIRLINER HAD BEEN BLOWN UP BY A BOMB.

BUT MECCA RADIO, MONITORED TODAY, REPEATED THE BROADCAST, AFTER PLAYING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. THE ANNOUNCER SAID LISTENERS WOULD HEAR A PERSONAL MESSAGE SPOKEN BY "OUR NOBLE KING" AND RECORDED OVER LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE. PARTS OF THE TEXT WERE INDISTINCT AND THE ANNOUNCER FOR THIS REASON READ IT AGAIN FOR CLARIFICATION.

KING SAUD FLEW TO NICE ON TUESDAY NIGHT TO CONVALESCE AFTER MEDICAL TREATMENT IN SWITZERLAND. THE PLANE CRASHED ON A SECOND TRIP. TWENTY MEMBERS OF THE ROYAL SUITE ARRIVED IN NICE FROM GENEVA BY ROAD TODAY. MORE ARE EXPECTED BY ROAD AND RAIL. POLICE GUARDS HAVE BEEN DISCREETLY STRENGTHENED SINCE AN ANONYMOUS BOMB WARNING AT THE HOTEL YESTERDAY.
