Officers of the Zairs merchant marine joined members of the forces in greeting the head of state. President Mobutu's visit was scheduled to include an inspection tour of the latest ship to join Zaire's merchant fleet.

The new vessel is the Kananga, a thirteen-thousand ton ship built especially for the Zaire merchant fleet by a firm of Belgian shipbuilders. The Kananga was only commissioned on February the ninth this year. President Mobutu was escorted on an inspection tour by the captain and members of the crew. Besides cargo facilities, the vessel also provides accommodation for sixty passengers.
