The Irish Prime Minister, Mr. Jack Lynch, called at No. 10 Downing Street for talks with the British Prime Minister, Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, after both leaders had attended Lord Mountbatten's funeral service at London's Westminster Abbey on Wednesday (5 September). The two Premiers discussed the situation in Northern Ireland in the light of the recent killings of Lord Mountbatten, members of his family and 18 soldier.s A communique released after the talks said Mr. Lynch and Mrs. Thatcher were determined to stamp out 'terrorism'. They said Lord Mountbatten's murder required the present cooperation on security to be substantially improved. Both governments are said to have made a number of suggestions which will now be actively followed up.
