Background: International Olympic Committee decided May 18 in Athens that the set of the Winter Olympic Games 1984 will be Yugoslav town and winter sports centre Sarajevo. The decision was proclaimed by president of the Committee Killanin May 18 at 16.10 in Athens after dramatic voting took place in which Goeteborg and Sapporo lost and Sarajevo won.
After the decision was taken in Athens hotel Caravelle, the representatives of the Sarajevo City in Athens were most happy. Said the mayor of Sarajevo Mr. Ante Susic: We have by this taken great responsibility but I am sure that we, with help of all Yugoslavia, can make it."
This of course is a great responsibility and task for Sarajevo and Yugoslavia but also an affirmation of Yugoslavia and her role in the world.
14th Winter Olympic games will be therefore in Sarajevo and on beautiful slopes of nearby mountains of Jahorina which have usually abundance of snow.
