    AMERICA'S BOBBY UNSER WAS SECOND AND ANOTHER AMERICAN, ARNIE KNEPPER, THIRD. GRAHAM HILL OF THE U.K., AFTER DUELLING FOR MOST OF THE 80-LAP RACE WITH JACKIE STEWART, DROPPED OUT ON THE 76TH LAP WITH IGNITION FAILURE. HE GAINED FIFTH PLACED BEHIND GARY CONGDON OF THE UNITED STATES.

    CANADA'S BILLY FOSTER, WHO KEPT UP WITH THE LEADERS ALL THE WAY, DROPPED OUT OF THE RACE IN THE 70TH LAP WHEN HI LOLA-FORD BROKE ITS REAR END.

    STEWART'S LOLA-FORD WAS ONE OF ONLY ELEVEN OF THE 22 STARTERS TO FINISH THE RACE. HE COVERED THE 216-MILES (347.6 KILOMETRE) CIRCUIT IN TWO HOURS, THREE MINUTES AND 59 SECONDS, GIVING HIM AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 103.46 M.P.H. (166.51 K.P.H.)
