Background: Senegal -- and last week a new sailing school was opened at N'gor, the resort area of Dakar, by French single-handed yachting hero Eric Tabarly.
SYNOPSIS: Facilities for luxury tourism are already well-established in Senegal and efforts are now being made to expand amenities and help young local enthusiasts to develop their yachting skills. The complex and new yacht designed by Eric Tabarly -- the Pen Duik 600 -- will be used as the teaching vessel.
The Pen Duik 600 is described as an ocean-going yacht, specially designed to allow novice sailors to gain experience on the open sea and for family cruising. During the opening ceremony of the new school Monsieur Tabarly welcomed the guests -- far cry from his usual dedication to braving the elements in mid-Atlantic.
