Background: Bolivia's first natural gas export pipeline was opened to Argentina on Saturday (29 April). Running from Santa Cruz to Yacuiha, the 340-mile pipeline was built at a cost of 56 million dollars (U.S.)
The pipeline will feed Argentina with 150 million cubic feet of natural gas each day over the next twenty years. Funding for the pipeline came from the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the New York Common Retirement Fund.
Officiating at the ceremony were Bolivia's President Hugo Banzer and Brigadier-General Luis Ray, representing Argentina's President Lanuses.
