    DURING A PRE-VESAK CELEBRATION LAST WEEK, BUDDHISTS ATTENDED THE ENTHRONEMENT OF THE GILT BODY OF THE REVEREND YUET KAI, WHO DIED IN MARCH LAST YEAR AT THE AGE OF 87.

    BEFORE THE ENTHRONEMENT, HIS FOLLOWERS COVERED HIS BODY WITH GOLD LEAF AFTER IT WAS FOUND THAT IT HAD UNDERGONE PRACTICALLY NO CHANGE AFTER EIGHT MONTHS IN A TABERNACLE. WHEN THE GOLD-ENCASED BODY WAS PUT ON DISPLAY RECENTLY, THOUSANDS OF HIS FOLLOWERS PAID HOMAGE.

    THE REV. YUET KAI CAME TO HONGKONG FROM CHINA. HE GRADUATED FROM AURORA UNIVERSITY IN SHANGHAI AT THE AGE OF 19. HE WAS A PROFESSOR OF PHILOSOPHY AT YEN CHING UNIVERSITY IN PEKING BEFORE COMING A MONK.
