Background: Negroes have staged a new "Freedom Day" voter registration drive in Greenwood, Mississippi, without incident, violence or arrests.
The drive resulted in 35 Negroes taking the voter registration test in the local courthouse. But an official said some of the prospective registrants had only partially filled out their questionnaires.
The voter test consists of oral questions on the Mississippi and Federal constitutions, and multiple-choice written questions on citizenship and government.
Organiser of the drive was an alliance of all the civil rights groups in Mississippi. Similar drives are planned for other towns in the state.
