Background: King Gustav Adolf, accompanied by Princesses Margaretha, Brigitta and Desire, opened the first, recently completed, part of Stockholm's modern shopping centre, April 12. President of Stockholm's Board of Works, Mr. Walfrid Frank, welcomed the Royal visitors.
The King toured the underground market-place with its 49 stores, then went to the biggest building which holds 40 departmental stores and offices and the Sergel cinema. Beneath the building is an underground garage.
Mr. Frank showed King Gustav a model of the centre as will be when this redevelopment work is finished in 1965.
Nearly 100,000 people crowded this part of Stockholm to see the Royal visitors and have their own look at the modern stores and amenities.
