AMONG THEIR EARLY VICTORIES, WAS THE WOMEN'S 100-METERS BREASTSTROKE IN WHICH KOO SHEN CHING NARROWLY DEFEATED IRIS TOBING OF INDONESIA WITH A TIME OF 1 MIN 25.3 SECONDS. ANOTHER CHINESE GIRL TOOK THE BRONZE MEDAL.

    THE FIFTH SWIMMING GOLD MEDAL WON BY THE CHINESE CAME IN THE MEN'S 100-METERS FREESTYLE EVENT. FIRST PLACE WENT TO FU DA CHIN IN THE WORLD-CLASS TIME OF 55.5 SECONDS. THE SILVER MEDAL WAS WON BY THE CHINESE SWIMMER CHUO TUNG WEN, WHILE THE BRONZE MEDAL WAS TAKEN OUT BY INDONESIA'S ACHMAD DIMJATI.
