Two of the greatest champions of past Wimbledon tennis tournaments continued on their winning ways today (Friday). Australian Rod Laver, number one seed in the Men's Singles, was made to produce some of his finest form to beat Dutch professional Tom Okker. Laver won 7-5, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.

In the Women's Singles, the number two seed Billie-Jean King crushed the comeback of Mrs. Christine Janes, who as Christine Truman often carried British hopes at past Wimbledons. Mrs. King won 6-2, 7-5.

SYNOPSIS: Dutch professional Tom Okker served up some of his best tennis at Britain's Wimbledon championships on Friday. His opponent -- one of the all-time greats, Rod Laver of Australia. Laver had raced to a two-set lead -- seven-five, six-one -- but Okker came back to take the third set six-two. Fortunes in the fourth-set fluctuated. But Laver finally prised the advantage away from the Dutchman.

Match point to Laver, the four-time Wimbledon champion.......

Laver won the fourth set seven-five to take the match. On his current form, the thirty-two-year-old Australian is strongly fancied to win the championship for the fifth time.

Serving here is Billie-Jean King, another former Wimbledon champion. Her opponent was Mrs. Christine Janes -- the former Christine Truman -- who often carried British hopes in the past.

Match point to Billie-Jean.....And despite a plucky comeback attempt by the British girl, Mrs. King finally wins six-two, seven-five. The American girl, seeded number two this year, looks set for another Wimbledon final.
