Background: The Revolutionary Union of Congolese Women celebrated its second anniversary from March the 3rd to the 5th. The climax of the celebrations was a rally in the Omnisports Stadium in Brazzaville, attended by President Alphonse Massemba-Debat.
The celebrations were marked in Brazzaville by a big "cleaning up" operation in the town, followed by a rally and march-past of the women in the Omnisports Stadium.
President Massemba-Debat, speaking at the rally, said that the Union had acted as stimulus to national unity. He said that Congo-Brazzaville had a vast national construction programme underway in which the nation's military would take part.
The first vice-president of the Union, Madame Bouanga, who addressed the rally, affirmed the devotion of Congolese women for the President.
Politicians and diplomats from a number of countries attended the celebrations. A march-past ended the celebrations.
