  • Description

A TOTAL OF 450 FIRMS, CURRENTLY EXHIBITING IN THE 18TH INTERNATIONAL SALON OF READY-TO-WEAR FASHIONS FOR WOMEN IN PARIS, HOPE TO ATTRACT 50,000 VISITORS AND BUYERS TO THEIR COLLECTIONS FOR SPRING AND SUMMER, 1970.

TWENTY PER CENT OF THE EXHIBITORS AT THE SHOW ARE FOREIGN -- INCLUDING EIGHT FIRMS FROM ISRAEL, A COUNTRY WHICH HAS NOT PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPRESENTED.

IN FRANCE ITSELF, THE READY-TO-WEAR INDUSTRY HAS MORE THAN DOUBLED ITS BUSINESS DURING THE LAST 10 YEARS TO BECOME THE LEADING EXPORTER IN THE COMMON MARKET. THE INDUSTRY IS COMPRISED OF SOME 1,700 FIRMS EMPLOYING 60,000 PEOPLE.

THE FASHION TRENDS TO EMERGE FROM THE COUNTRY SALON SUGGEST THAT -- FOR SUMMER AT LEAST -- THE MINI-SKIRT WILL TRIUMPH OVER THE MAXI IN POPULARITY.

OVERALL, THE DESIGNS TEND TO REPRESENT OPPOSITE EXTREMES, SOME CREATION BEING CONCEIVED ON GEOMETRIES LINES, OTHERS ON LANGUID, FLOWING LINES.

COLOURS ARE STRIKING AND USED IN DAZZLING COMBINATIONS. THERE ARE FREQUENT SUGGESTIONS OF INDIAN INSPIRATION IN SOME DESIGNS, WHILE OTHERS HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY ART DECO.

AND THERE WERE OTHER EXHIBITIONS, LIKE ONE OF THE 26 BRITISH FIRMS WITH A STAND AT THE SALON, WHO PREFERRED TO PLACE THE FASHION ACCENT ON THE FEMALE FIGURE BY EXHIBITING SEE-THROUGH DRESSES.
