    SOME OF EUROPE'S TOP CYCLISTS HAVE BEEN COMPETING THIS WEEKEND AT AN INTERNATIONAL RACE MEETING AT BADEN BADEN IN WEST GERMANY.

    THE MAIN EVENT TODAY (SUNDAY) WAS THE BADEN BADEN GRAND PRIX - OVER 100 KILOMETRES, OR 100 TIMES AROUND THE ONE KILOMETRE CIRCUIT. THE RACE WAS STARTED BY THE COMMANDER OF FRENCH MILITARY FORCES IN WEST GERMANY, GENERAL MASSU.

    THIRTY FIVE CYCLISTS STARTED IN THE PROFESSIONAL EVENT, INCLUDING INTERNATIONAL RIDERS LIKE TOM SIMPSON, OF BRITAIN; RUDI ALTIG, WEST GERMANY; VITTORIO ADORNI, ITALY; AND, JEAN STABLINSKI, OF FRANCE.

    THE WEST GERMAN RIDER, HORST OLDENBURG, WON THE EVENT, AND JACQUES ANGQUETIL, OF FRANCE WAS SECOND. SIMPSON, THE WORLD CHAMPION, WAS HAVING ONLY HIS THIRD RIDE SINCE HE BROKE HIS FEET IN A SKI-ING ACCIDENT SOME MONTHS AGO. HE TOOK PART IN THE RACE FOR TRAINING.
