    HUNGARIAN PRESIDENT PAL LOSONCZI ARRIVED IN NEW DELHI YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) TO START A FIVE-DAY STATE VISIT TO INDIA. HE AND MRS LOSONCZI WERE MET AT PALAM AIRPORT BY PRIME MINISTER MRS INDIRA GANDHI AND BY INDIA'S NEW PRESIDENT V.V. GIRI AND MRS GIRI.

    PRESIDENT LOSONCZI IS THE FIRST HUNGARIAN HEAD OF STATE TO VISIT INDIA - AND HE DECLARED AT THE AIRPORT THAT HE WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO ADDING TO HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE COUNTRY.

    THE PRESIDENT'S ARRIVAL TOOK PLACE AS MRS GANDHI FACED AN IMPORTANT CRISIS - 11 MEMBERS OF THE RULING CONGRESS PARTY'S WORKING COMMITTEE WERE MEETING IN ANOTHER PART OF THE CITY TO DECIDE TO EXPEL HER FROM THE PARTY.

    THE HUNGARIAN HEAD OF STATE WAS ALSO GREETED AT THE AIRPORT BY MEMBERS OF HIS COUNTRY'S DIPLOMATIC CORPS - AS WELL AS BY INDIAN OFFICIALS.

    THE PRESIDENT - WHO RECEIVED A BOUQUET FORM CHILDREN OF INDIA'S HUNGARIAN COMMUNITY - ALSO SPOKE OF THE COMMON FEATURES IN THE HISTORIES OF INDIA AND HUNGARY AND ADDED THAT "THE NECESSITIES OF THE SHRINKING WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE TODAY HAVE IMPARTED IN BOTH COUNTRIES A KEEN DESIRE FOR CLOSER KNOWLEDGE OF EACH OTHER". HE ALSO DECLARED THAT HE HOPED TO HOLD TALKS WITH INDIAN LEADERS TO EXCHANGE VIEWS NOT ONLY ON MATTERS OF MUTUAL COOPERATION BUT ALSO ON QUESTIONS OF INTERNATIONAL IMPORT - THUS MARKING AN IMPORTANT STAGE IN THE STRENGTHENING OF FRIENDSHIP TIES BETWEEN THEM.
