  • Description

A ministerial committee under Jordanian Prime Minister Al-Rifai has met in Amman with the four-man team formed by Arab leaders to settle the crisis between Jordanian authorities and Palestinian commandos.

The Jordanian committee which includes the Prime Minister, and the Ministers of State, Defence, Foreign Affairs, Public Works and the Interior was formed at the first meeting of Jordan's new cabinet this week. The decision to form the committee followed a letter from King Hussein. The committee aims to promote national unity, and achieve closer co-operation with the Arab states.

These points are expected to be high on the agenda of the meeting between the Government committee and the four-man peace committee, headed by Dr. Mohammed El Kaouli of Libya, with delegates from Sudan and Algeria.

Observers in Amman say it's too early to judge what progress the government can achieve, however, the meeting between the two committees is considered a turning point in negotiations since the June 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
