  • Description

A GROUP OF ABOUT 200 PEOPLE, REPRESENTING THE INDIAN COMMUNIST PARTY, MARCHED THROUGH NEW DELHI TO THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY YESTERDAY, (THURSDAY), PROTESTING AT UNITED STATES ACTION IN THE GULF OF TONKIN. THE MARCHERS CARRIED SLOGANS AND SHOUTED AS THEY MADE THEIR WAY TO THE EMBASSY LED BY THE PARTY CHAIRMAN, MR. A.S. DANGE.

AT THE EMBASSY MR. DANGE LED A SMALL GROUP OF COMMUNIST LEADERS IN DELIVERING A PROTEST NOTE TO THE AMERICAN AMBASSADOR. OUTSIDE MINOR SCUFFLES BROKE OUT BETWEEN POLICE AND DEMONSTRATORS.

ANTI-AMERICAN REACTION IN NEW DELHI HOWEVER SEEMS TO BE A MINORITY OPINION ONLY. STILL AWARE OF THE UNEASY BORDER SITUATION EXISTING BETWEEN CHINA AND INDIA MOST INDIANS SEEM TO SUPPORT THE UNITED STATES ACTION. AN EMERGENCY CABINET MEETING WAS HELD IN NEW DELHI SOON AFTER THE CRISIS DEVELOPED AND A FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMAN SAID INDIA WAS "DEEPLY DISTURBED", BY THE CLASHES BETWEEN COMMUNIST VIETNAM AND THE UNITED STATES.
