  • Description

Today in Research...cancer scientists get half million dollar award to support his studies.

At a one-day meeting of 700 cancer control leaders in Chicago, the American Cancer Society made the announcement. It was giving 587 thousand, 344 dollars to Dr. Paul Telslay, a German-born physician and bio-chemist, so that she could devote his career to cancer research. Major General Edmond Leavey, the society's crusade chairman, says it's the largest grant ever made by the society to support the research of a single individual. Dr. Telslay, who is now 34 years old, is provided an annual salary at Chicago University, where he does his work, until he reaches retirement age. The grant for Dr. Talslay represents a healthy fraction of the 11 and a half million allocated by the society across the nation for research in 1957.
